Terms of Use

Gaffer · Last updated 15 October 2026

These are the rules for using Gaffer, the app for running a small-sided football team. By making an account you agree to them. They're short and in plain English; please read them.

Who runs Gaffer

Gaffer is run by Ethan Davison-Pearce. To get in touch, email ethan@reth.com. How your information is kept is in the privacy policy.

No abuse, no offensive content

Gaffer has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. Anything you post, send or stream in Gaffer, including posts, captions, comments, chat messages, usernames, names, team names, highlight clips, reels and live streams, must not:

Swearing at the football is part of the game, but never aimed at a person. Gaffer checks what you type for words that aren't allowed and won't post them.

Filming people

Only film, stream or post games where the people playing are happy to be filmed. If someone asks you to take a clip of them down, take it down. Anyone tagged in a post can take themselves off it, and any player can take a clip off their own highlights. Only put a goal up for Goal of the Week if the players in it are happy for everyone on Gaffer to see it.

Reporting and blocking

We look at every report within 24 hours. Anything that breaks these rules is removed, and anyone who posted it may have their account removed straight away, without warning.

AI commentary

Gaffer can add a commentator's voice to highlight clips. It's made by Google's AI from the lines Gaffer writes (players' names, the score and the minute), and only once you've agreed to send them. The "Sweary" voice swears and is for over-18s only.

Your account

What you post stays yours

You keep the rights to what you post. You let Gaffer store it and show it to the people you share it with (your team, your followers, or anyone who can see your profile), only to run the app.
